My Bucket List – Top 10

I’ve never made a bucket list before and I know people have renamed it clever cutesy names for it because “kicking the bucket” is too dark for some sissies. But I like the term bucket list, call me a purist. So having never made an actual bucket list for myself…

Korea1. I want to travel to Korea. See what’s become of where I used to live, for three years with my paternal grandmother, and I’d like to see where my mother grew up. Whether or not in their places stand buildings or restaurants, I do want to go back to the country I was born in and spend a good amount of time taking in Korea. Eating in the city and walking through the countrysides, and everything new that awaits. I’ve always saved Korea in my list of places traveled, but it’s one that will happen.

It’s absolutely #1 on my list.

2. I want to publish a book. Maybe even more than one. Free writing comes easy to me.  Book writing and publishing is a labor of love and then more labor…the blessing and curse of being a writer.

3. I want to take care of my mother. Financially and eventually forever but for now I take care of the needs under my own present roof, while I strive to set momz up with more security in her future.

4. I want to be a voice for those who need to be heard. I don’t know yet in what capacity but I will know it when I know it, and I will use my voice for good.

5. I want to see my brother happily married with a family of his own.

6. I want to learn to ride a bicycle. I do.

7. I want to vacation where I sleep in one of those Polynesian over-the-water bungalows under the sun.

8. I want to own and operate a food truck and see where it goes. (Update: I’m the new owner of Rice House, opening May 1st, 2014! Click here for the blog about it!)

9. I want to succeed in preparing the perfect poached egg.

10. I want to face my one biggest demon whom I’ve never had the courage to face before. I can be patient with myself.

Always dishing,

What a great list. I made mine not long ago but mine was totally selfish, all about the things I have never seen or done that would give only me satisfaction.

Now you’ve come along and given a fine mix of ‘good for Jun’ along with ‘good for humankind’ also. Amazingly we have a few things on our respective lists that are extremely similar and not just the general ideas but some of the details too. I knew we were very similar in some things (not on our lists) but I’m surprised about a couple of the ones that are there. (The SFW ones that is..

Now I’d be interested in seeing your ‘order of importance’ list.

Ha! I think that’s pretty much my order of importance…give or take one adjustment 🙂

I’m not surprised that we’d have a few similar ones…after all this time it’s no coincidence we connect dear G!

  2. kcsmum

I love the things on your list. My wish is that Momz can experience “her Korea” with you. I think it would mean a lot to her, and then, I can understand if you need time to ingest and digest on your own. Your Appa is smiling again because of the things on this list. What a wonderful girl he raised. The food truck will be stupendous! And all kinds and yumminess will ensue because of it. I have always dreamed of vacationing in the South Pacific but I will have to live vicariously through you – I am such a control freak that I would never be able to withstand the flight. You bring things to life through your writing so I’m not worried. Same reasoning holds for publishing. You will succeed. If you listen to my advice on handle bars, brakes and seats you WILL ride a bike. I will cherish the day when we sit down with a cup of tea and talk about the demon. Even though it’s an ugly label, it still contributes to a beautiful soul. I pray that I’m around to see you finish the list.

That’s the plan…to go with momz and Davy and Noah 🙂

I’ve so wanted to head out to Bora Bora for a long time! Ha!

Tea and yummy finger sandwiches 🙂

  3. I know you have several books in you. It’s just a matter of time. Your trip to Korea to visit your past would make a good, 3rd or 4th book. I can see your food truck out on the docks feeding Davy and his co-workers. Or perhaps at a University feeding students. And perhaps, Momz can be your partner in this venture and you can take care of each other. BTW, who is going to drive this food truck? Hmmm! The perfect poached egg is one that taste good, so I’m sure that one has been accomplished many times . Now for a serious question: Does your brother want to be married and have a family? If so, it will happen when it happens. He may enjoy being single. If this is the case, let it be. As for the over the water bungalow, to each his own. I’d want electricity and comfort. I could do it for maybe one night. And when you do face that demon, you will have the Jun crew right there to help. Your blog gives voice to many in the views that you express that would otherwise go unsaid. And finally in a month when you are riding around on your bike, you will know the sense of accimplishment of checking off another of your bucket list items.

I would so be down for having a food truck on the docks! 🙂 Ha!

My brother will be married in the next year, and I just can’t wait for him to love that next phase of his life 🙂

      A month…hmmm…let’s see…

  4. At 25 with a 3 year old and a new baby doctors told me i would not live to be 30. Back then the idea of a bucket list didnt exist but I knew there were lots of things I wanted to do. Several of them on your bucket list Jun. Living my life on Borrowed time I embrace whatever experience comes my way. I will be 67 in two months. Guess Im just to fistey to die.

  5. Sparky

You should enter “The Great Food Truck Race” and win you a food truck. I know you could do it. I too dream of those bungalows over the water. Number one on my bucket list is a trip to France and if things continue on their current track I hope to accomplish it next year. I also have included a side trip to Belgium and lunch/dinner/any mean with you and your lovely family. Fingers crossed.

  6. This is a great bucket list. You will accomplish everything on the list! You’re such a great writer. I know you have many great books in you. Autobiographies are my favorite type of book to read. I’ve read so many over the years. I would love to read your autobiography one day. I’m pretty sure that you’ll be checking off number six on the list sooner than you think :). It’s on my bucket list to write my autobiography one day.

  7. outsidereality

Bora Bora is a place I would love to see. I like your bucket list and am sure that you will find a way to accomplish most of it. Do the have food trucks in Belgium?

  8. Bucket Lists are such awesome ideas!! I think when it’s written down (and especially when shared with other people) it almost makes you feel like it’s a binding contract and you HAVE TO do these things… So I may follow in your footsteps and finally put mine onto paper!!

Also, if the food truck you are planning contains food YOU have cooked, i’m sure it would be a huge success!! Just make sure you plan a trip or two overseas and bring that truck over to the UK too 😉 haha

  9. I like your bucket list. It is well thought out. Not surprisingly your drops in the bucket are not just about you, but others as well. I have not doubt that you will accomplish each item. That’s what you do 🙂

I have never made a bucket list. Time flies so swiftly and over the years I have pushed those fleeting dreams into the background. Maybe it is time to revisit a few of the thoughts that have echoed ever so softly.
