BBMVPain In My Ass

WARNING: This post is meant to be as dramatic as it reads. It’s pre-season mayhem for Big Brother 15!

“The Big Brother MVP will force the houseguests to rethink their strategies.  With America rewarding good game play, it doesn’t pay to be a floater this summer,” said Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan, Executive Producers of BIG BROTHER.

This is the message being broadcast across the Big Brother universe. If you know what this message is in reference to, great. If you don’t, then do yourself a favor and read this or this.

Back to the message…

There are two things wrong with the message, and one thing right.

RIGHT: “The Big Brother MVP will force the houseguests to rethink their strategies…” ABSOLUTELY. This whole BBMVP scheme will definitely force HGs to rethink their strategies. Duh. Just like the reveal of X-Factor made me rethink my strategy…and other twists that followed.

WRONG: “With America rewarding good game play…” NO. NO. NO. When you open up anything anywhere to a public vote, you can’t dare assume what the public will or will not do. “America” will do what it wants to do because they can once you give them the vote. To assume America will vote for good game play is like assuming a cat lady’s vibrating dildo is really just a back massager. Wait. Huh? Yeah. Exactly. If CBS wanted to appease the population of Big Brother Cat Ladies they should have just given the green light for more web series featuring cat lady favorites.

WRONG: “…it doesn’t pay to be a floater this summer.” NO. NO. NO. Unless there’s some Hunger Games scheme going on where floaters are executed, it’s impossible NOT to have floaters in the game…let alone in the real world. Darwin would agree with me, I’m sure. What needs to happen here is that “a floater” be replaced with “spineless” or “clueless” this summer…or something like that. The term “floater” has been misused and downtrodden and now CBS is making it a dirty word.

Now, the whole HOH having to nominate 3 HGs? That’s way more interesting and conducive to “good game play”… The BBMVP scheme sounds like a renamed and rebranded Pandora’s Box. Obviously, we should all wait and see what CBS has in store for us since they’re promising to explain everything later. But for now, let’s dish and be uber dramatic!

Update: For the 4th eviction America gets to be the MVP and vote for the third nominee.

Always dishing,

  • Personally I feel this is better than Pandora’s Box because there will be a MVP every week and its not like Pandora’s box where production decide which week to put a Pandora’s box to mess up someones HoH reign.

But this will only be better than Pandora’s box if the “special power” stays the same.

Because if the power changes what it does, all production will do is pick which power to use for each MVP holder. So they could use a power one week to mess up the HoH (a hoh who production don’t like) and save someone who production loves, and another week they can have a power which doesn’t harm the HoH (if production likes the HoH and wants them to stay longer)

Hopefully it will be a better season than the recent seasons from 11 and onwards 😛

  • I agree with Jun, as usual. The three nominees twist is interesting, but the MVP idea is weak. The masses are asses…stop giving them a vote.

Any guesses on what power the MVP will have? What happens when it’s the same MVP week after week?

  • I don’t know how I feel about this…
This whole MVP thing will become predictable, week one the cat ladies choose the Hot attractive guy… Basically your typical Jeff/Shane type. Week two if you can’t vote for the same person it’ll probably be the cute girl that is least threatening to The Cat-ladies Favorite (the MVP from the first week probably.) Then week three comes along and rinse wash and repeat the first two weeks until the twist isn’t in effect anymore.
Then you have The MVP special power shit. I am already anticipating suffering; when I read post upon post about riggage. I am not looking forward to it.
Personally I think The HOH should nominate 2 people like normal, and the MVP should Anonymously nominate a third person.
All in all, I hope they execute the twist well. I don’t know how I’ll feel about it until I see it in action.

I don’t like the idea of the houseguest MVP. It sounds SO sketchy. It’s giving me that sort of “production is going to give their favorite player MVP and will also conveniently give them immunity as their power when they’re potentially in danger” vibe, you know?
    Not feelin’ it.
But I am, however, feeling the nominate three twist. That’d make for some interesting campaigning from week to week.

  • What if the MVP nominates 1 of the 3 nominees? This was my first thought upon seeing the twist. Haven’t thought it through but it could be very interesting. Early on, they’d have no idea who America likes and hates. Hopefully there’s a restrictions on repeating every week.

I am trying to reserve judgment but who am I kidding? After all, it’s Big Brother!!!

  • There will always be floaters, from the classic true version, you Jun, to the others who have no game play and go with the power.

America is fickle. They’ll vote for the worst if the mood hits AND who is to say what ‘good game play’ is. They really screwed the pooch with this whole fabricated PR blast.

Unless the MVP is given immunity the following week he or she will be paper for the shredder. If that is the case I can see America voting for the person they least like, not their favorite.

As you can see, I really don’t have any opinions on any of this preseason speculation orgy *wink*

Excited to see how it plays out.

    Thanks for the platform Jun!

  • I agree too.

America should never ever ever vote for anything that effects game play. We are not to be trusted! Collectively, we are dumber than a box of rocks! :)

As for the MVP special powers, I think the ideal way to do it would be to announce to the house that every week a HG will SECRETLY be awarded with the power to anonymously nominate one HG. If they reveal that they have the power then they are nominated. The HoH nominates the other 2. EVERYONE plays in the POV. One person is evicted.

Whoever is awarded MVP can ineligible to be MVP next week. Also, the MVP is not immune from eviction. S/he may nominate someone but that does not mean that the MVP is safe from eviction. In this way, Big Brother is protected from America’s stupidity of swapping between Jeff and Jordan every week and the other.

I’m not even going to talk about the stupid floater hate. It should have been obvious to everyone that floaters are a legitimate strategy when Brenchel started talking about how much floaters suck. Spineless and Clueless (eg; Kail and Shane) are unwanted. Smart savvy players that know which way the wind is blowing or HGs that know when to keep their head down are not bad players! Floaters are the ones that enable the house to flip.

Since we are having a vote for MVP every week, I’ll be voting for the floater! 😉

If America is allowed to vote for MVP (and the houseguests are aware of it), then the whole Big Brother premise is compromised. I’m a tad disgusted, and we’ve got a week before it starts!

  • I think this COULD be a good idea, but could also turn out to be stupid…
There could be an AWFUL game player who happens to be a really funny, friendly person and so they’ll probably win MVP every single week…

Which means even though they’re a crappy player, they will be in a great position because most other HGs will be kissing their ass just in case they use their MVP status against them!!

I can see it backfiring and making the game less about strategy than it is atm…??

  • I agree, Jun. Whenever “America” gets a vote it’s pretty much guaranteed that the hottest guy or girl in the house is going to win the votes.

  • America isn’t going to objectively vote for who they think has the best gameplay. It’s going to be a popularity contest. Great idea to let America vote! Glass House worked out really well! Hahahaha. I agree with what some people are saying about the MVP being able to anonymously nominate the third nominee. I think that would be interesting. I don’t mind people who float as long as it’s done correctly. There are good and bad floaters. I’m tired of the bad floaters like Lawon, Adam, Kathy, Joe, and Jenn. I hope there’s no one like them in the cast this season.

  • Guess I’ll just need to use you initial BB Canada assessment as a guideline to vote for the MVP. Read the bios, look at the pictures and ask myself “what would Jun do?”

  • I effin love this post!! I’m so sad I’ll never play. I actually think I could have played to “America’s” taste…via entertainment with game play.

You are so right on America…Jeff is a perfect example. He is worshiped for his looks anr jot skills.

Look forward to new strategy..but totally bummed too.

I don’t like the public voting thing because its hard for AMERICA to vote based on game play. I can dislike a player & all they are about but I don’t deny they play the game really really well. MOST BB fans can’t. I always have a favorite player (s) I would get along with if we met or that I can relate to but then I have players who I know are playing the BEST GAME! I can see players like Dan,Will,Dick & many others never being “MVP” because people think they are liars, fake & evil. But it’s gameplay people! LOL!

Ever since Brendon and Rachel came along, the term “floater” has been dragged through the mud. It is a very legitimate strategy. When people assume that floater=competition loser…NO NO NO. It seriously makes me lose my mind over how people misuse that word.

  • If the MVP America’s Vote thing were to work then the power should be something simple like immunity for the week. If the AV-MVP’s power were something else then it would stuck.

  • Jun this sounds fun to me. Every year people and HGs talk about voting for the best player which is never done of course. The Jury vote emotionally because they are pissed and then some of us (me) get pissed that they are such poor sports and cry babies.

This year we can ALL vote emotionally. It is going to be fun to see how strategy is handled because of the twist. It will be VERY funny watching/reading all the conspiracy theory stuff about whether or not the Fans truly do have any power. I am just excited about having a cast of supposed newbies.

Will you be doing a video series this year? At least discussing the new houseguests? I really enjoyed the short series last year.
*Hopefully you haven’t addressed this before and I don’t sound like a dumbass.

  • Personally I love the twist. No, it isn’t doing what they thought it would do but the twists never do. It is causing tons of drama. I wouldn’t want them to do it every year but in terms of BB twists it’s pretty good. The dumb ass saboteur and coach twists fizzled so fast. This could provide a few weeks of drama.

MVP idea is fine; however, with Ellisa having such a following it gives a tremendous advantage to someone who has done absolutely nothing in the game. CBS should stop this ASAP.
